Biography

Oliver Schneider, his artist name, LUGOS, is a photographer, photo artist and ‘photo recycler’. Born in 1968, Basel Switzerland, he now lives and creates in Chamblon, in the French speaking part.
Having started with his photography twenty years ago he also ventured into creating picture collages, which he’s been doing successfully for the past thirteen years. During 1996 he studied photography and film at the New Arts School of Zurich and have since had several exhibitions in Switzerland.

Personal Testimony

As an artist I’m actively engaging with the digital picture flood of the 21st century.

Most people using a digital camera today shoot a myriad of pictures that for the most part end up stored somewhere on computer or disk, as was the case before with photographs and negatives ending up in boxes somewhere.

It is exactly this picture data that I have decided to recycle. I bring the data back to life and through the extraction of single parts I reassemble them to form brand new compositions. Compositions that result in my pictures.

The process becomes an ‘emotional trip’ whereby memories get jogged back and mixed into the new creations and so they are relived whilst they get given new life and meaning. The result, a photo collage, a new picture is born.
