Strong, conscious of their power, lustful… Such portrait of women creates Maciej Bartosik-Biberstein in his paintings. As no one else he believes in myth of “Eternal Femininity”, myth which even was being refuted by Simone de Beauvoir in her wide known book “The Second Sex”. For painter womanhood is almost always causative might – demonic and dangerous, but also an origin of everything which is beautiful in life. His Venuses are drawn with similarity to prehistoric goddesses. On paintings we can see trembling spots of color and dynamic sights. Sometimes he grabs tube of paint and just marks outlines. On the picture of “The Warrior “, which came into existence accordingly to documental about Asian female wrestling, we can see thick stream of red dye, flowing by female thigh. There are much more such strong elements. Erected and swollen breasts, round bellies, vaginas. But this is not an aim. This is only beginning. In some moment artist gets to exact point of view. He takes away individual attributes, reduces shapes. He creates marks of femininity, his object of worship. He says: “Suffering and mutilation comes with triumph of conquering death and ruling the whole world. Because it is the woman who rules the world. We must remember that.”

When I saw first pictures and spoke with Maciej Biberstein, I thought that I’m speaking with smart teenager. Only form of pictures was very perturbing. It appeared that Maciej spent few years in Medical University and now he is graduating Fine Arts Academy. He showed me semi-Paleolithic females – his drawings, paintings and – recently – photos. In presented works we can see complete idea. Artist doesn’t leave any margin of artistic interpretation. Thus, we can only like or dislike his works. With no middle feelings. In hermetic world of artist’s life introduces us his words: “I’m thirty years old. It’s high time to grow up. But it seems to be impossible in my case. Because how to be mature when you are still the youngest child, youngest brother? Still the smallest, watching into the world from the “ground-floor”. Maybe my concept of female originates from my minority. Surrounded by them from my beginning. Living in house with four sisters, mother and father which was always silent, which I have never get familiar with. I’m haunted by women, like most of us. Even if would try to escape from their powers I will be lost. Whole thing is lost in the very beginning. I can only try to revenge for my humiliation. Revenge in way that most of the children choose – by drawing them, by painting, by taking photos of her nature. Nature which is still not known to me”.

When I spoke with Maciej, which came into my atelier like Oscar from “The Tin Drum” I realized that it was worth to organize that contest, to find and help the people which have some truth to tell.
